Poirazi holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Cyprus, and an M.S. and PhD from the University of Southern California. Following her Ph.D., she worked at the Alexander Fleming Instite of Immunology in Greece until 2001, when she moved to the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) in Crete, Greece in 2004. As of 2021, she is Director of Research at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) at the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH).
Research interests :
Her research focuses on understanding how dendrites contribute to complex brain functions such as learning and memory. She develops and uses computational models that simulate dendritic computations and their effects on cellular and network function across multiple brain areas. She also uses in vivo behavioral and imaging techniques to probe the role of dendrites in behaving mice. Finally, she builds brain-inspired algorithms that incorporate dendritic properties, aiming to advance machine learning and artificial intelligence.
