Research with Impact, Innovation with Vision
The University Research and Innovation Center (URIC) of the University of Crete stands as a dynamic and outward-looking pillar for the production of new knowledge, the advancement of scientific excellence, and the substantial integration of research with the needs of society and the economy.
Strategic Goal of the Center
Its strategic goal is to establish itself as a point of reference at both national and international levels, serving as a collaborative bridge between the academic community, international partners, business entities, and institutional organizations. By developing strong synergies, attracting competitive funding, and cultivating a culture of innovation, the Center actively contributes to the formation of a dynamic and high-quality research ecosystem.
A Reference Point for the International Research Ecosystem
The Research Institutes of URIC conduct basic and applied research of international standing in the fields of health, education, humanities and culture, emerging technologies, and sustainable development.
Objectives of the Center
The Center supports excellence and collaboration among the University's research groups and early-career scientists, enhances networking at national and international levels, and promotes the utilization of research results for the benefit of sustainable development and social progress. It encourages the generation of innovative ideas and applications that respond to contemporary challenges, contributing decisively to the formation of a creative, competitive, and socially responsible academic environment.
Establishment of the University Research and Innovation Center (URIC)
The University Research and Innovation Center (URIC) of the University of Crete was established in accordance with Law 4957/2022, Articles 131-137. It is governed by its Founding Act ("Establishment of the University Research and Innovation Center at the University of Crete," Government Gazette No. 4614/05.03.2025/Issue B' 1185), its Internal Operating Regulations ("Approval of the Internal Operating Regulations of the University Research and Innovation Center of the University of Crete," Government Gazette No. 28769/25.11.2025/Issue B' 6455), the Decision of the University Senate regarding the establishment of its Research Institutes ("Establishment of Research Institutes within the University Research and Innovation Center of the University of Crete," Government Gazette No. 32039/23.12.2025/Issue B' 7370), as well as the Decisions of its Board of Directors and the Senate of the University of Crete.
