The Institute of Optics and Vision was established to develop and promote scientific research in the fields of vision and ophthalmology. Its founding reflects the significance of understanding the mechanisms of human vision and addressing conditions that affect visual function.

Since its inception, the Institute has focused on the study of ocular physiology and pathology, as well as the development of new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. Its research covers a wide range of thematic areas, from basic scientific investigation of vision to the clinical application of new technologies.

Particular emphasis is placed on the utilization of advanced imaging technologies and data analysis, which allow for a more precise understanding of ocular disorders. Through these technologies, early diagnosis and more effective monitoring of the progression of ophthalmic diseases become possible.

Furthermore, the Institute develops partnerships with universities, research centers, and clinical units in Greece and abroad. Through research programs and scientific activities, it contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the field of vision and the improvement of prevention and treatment for ocular conditions.
